Welcome to the
Home of Monarch Theatre
Monarch Theatre is an intimate venue with 110 seats and a big heart that goes beyond the limitations of our physical space.
In 2022-23, Monarch Theatre will be moving to the Event Center and Room 13.
There are many productions a year (Fall Play, Thespian Play, Spring Musical, English Literature Workshop, Children's Tour, Semester Showcases) and occasional smaller performances throughout the year. There is a place for everyone at Monarch Theatre, no matter what your interest.
For the Theatre 1-8 students, Monarch Theatre is a program of exploration--students acquire the foundational knowledge of both the technical and performance sides of theatre as well as learn valuable skills in public speaking, self-responsibility, and working with a team. In-class performances include monologues and scenes, a one-act play, and experience directing and in production design.
Monarch Theatre is the only school in the District with two periods of Technical Theatre 1-8 classes where students get hands-on experience in the art of stagecraft. Students learn the basics of safety before using a variety of tools to build the sets for the three mainstage productions. Students also learn about costuming, lighting, props, and painting techniques during this class.
Production Workshop students gain real-world experience in acting and technical theatre as well as training for professional theatrical careers. Critical workplace skills are emphasized including punctuality, responsibility, teamwork, critical thinking and creativity. By the time most students graduate from Monarch Theatre, they will have an acting or technical portfolio prepared for college auditions. Our alumni have been accepted into arts programs at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Boston University, Emerson College, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, University of Edinburgh, UC Santa Cruz, UCSD, and SDSU. Additionally, several have gone on to travel the world performing and to build successful careers in the Arts as performers, filmmakers, stage managers, theatre technicians, and community artists.
